Bark
Yellowish-brown, relatively smooth.
Syn. Sapindus tetraphylla
Yellowish-brown, relatively smooth.
Leaves are alternately arranged, compound, with 2-5 pairs of leaflets, usually densely hairy. Leaflets are narrow-elliptic to lance-shaped.
Flowers are about 1 cm in diameter, white to pink, borne in panicles on the stem.
Fruits are about 3.5 cm in diameter, greenish grey to yellow-brown, hairy drupes.
The genus name Lepisanthes derives from the Greek words “lepis” (meaning scaly) and “anthos” (meaning flower). The specific epithet tetraphylla means “four-leaved”, which is actually a bit of a taxonomic misnomer.
