Bark
Stems are short, stout and may produce aerial roots as the plant matures.
Syn. Pandanus latifolius
Stems are short, stout and may produce aerial roots as the plant matures.
Fan-shaped sprays of long, narrow, blade-like leaves.
Pandan almost never flowers; male flowers are only rarely recorded.
Seed production is not typical. Propagation is mainly by suckers or stem cuttings.
Pandan’s distinctive sweet, grassy aroma comes partly from 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP), the same aromatic compound that gives fragrant rice varieties such as Basmati and Jasmine their characteristic scent.
