Syn. Campylus sinensis
Thin, pale brown, papery, peeling, with lenticels; hanging aerial roots
Simple, alternate, broadly ovate-cordate, 10 - 15 cm, hairy beneath
Small, yellowish-green, appearing before the leaves in clusters
Ovoid red drupe; curved seed
Flora keys separate it from giloy (T. cordifolia): hairy shoots, larger leaves (10 - 15 cm, tomentose beneath) and bigger crimson drupes (about 1.2 cm, with a tubercled stone). It is dioecious, with greenish-yellow racemes arising from the axils of fallen leaves on older stems. The Sanskrit name ‘Kandodbhava guduchi’ is used in classical texts.
